Recipe :: Blueberry Banana Smoothie

IMG_2972.jpg

I don't know about you, but during the winter months its a roller coaster ride for my body. A constant fight to keep the germs away and my body healthy. In a city filled with a few million people, germs can be hard to avoid. Especially when everyone is stuck indoors and we have to share so many things communally. I try to get as much vegetables and fruits in my body as possible. I also wash my hands all the time and get plenty of sleep. Personally, my body works in sync with the seasons. I tend to want to go to bed early in the winter and wake up early so I can have as much sunlight as possible. It always amazes me when people have trouble sleeping at night and sleep the day away. I would go crazy if I had insomnia, it must be tough. In the summer time, I wake early and leap out of bed in full force. Winter I tend to be a bit more sluggish but still try to get the most out of my days. Smoothies are a terrific way to get loads of yummy antioxidants. Some days I will have a smoothie with a banana, apple, and some spinach. There really isn't an easier way to get a large dose of fresh goodness into your system. Do you make smoothies? What is your favorite combination?

Ingredients

1 cup of fresh blueberries
1 banana
1/2 cup of vanilla soy milk
4 ice cubes

Method

Rinse blueberries and cut bananas into small pieces. Place all ingredients in a blender and puree till smooth.

  3. Smoothies are the best! My hubby is a smoothie guru. He never measures, just throws in a bunch of fruit (banana, strawberries, blueberries, peaches -- all frozen from our summer pickings), soy milk or cow's milk, fat free vanilla yogurt, flax seed, honey, etc. What a great way to start the day. I love it when I hear the whir of the blender in the morning!

  4. Gorgeous! I totally put away my blender for all but soups in the winter but I really shouldn't. I've got all this lovely fruit in the freezer just waiting to get made. Adore the photos, as per usual :)

  5. I just found your blog and I really like it! Just from looking at this one post and reading your sidebar. I so wish I could have some blueberries now! It's just another great part of summer though so I can wait if I must. : )

  6. Hi Nicole! I love your recipes!! I always use frozen fruit because it eliminates the ice which waters down the fruit. I love to mix blueberries, strawberries, half of a frozen banana, and dark cherries with a touch of almond extract and maple syrup. I was drinking this everyday at the beginning of the summer for an afternoon snack after my dance classes. Delicious!!
